The CBD market exploded when Colorado legalized the cultivation of cannabis in 2014, and a Brush company has been innovating their product from the beginning.
“The first thing that I started about six years ago, was going around and collecting some very rare high CBD, low THC plants, and working to start breeding them and analyzing them,” Dexter Rice, the founder of NuuMe, said.
Experimenting with different strains has led Rice to a product he considers superior over other CBD products, one that retains other active ingredients other CBD processors leave out.
“Most people are breeding high CBD at the expense of all of these other accessory active components, you know; they’re breeding them out to put more into the CBD. And we’re doing quite the opposite, we’re looking for that variety,” Rice said. “That’s what, in our experience, it’s always been the most effective, and at the same time for a very broad range of applications.”
Customers have said CBD helped them with a number of different health issues, from regular pains, nausea, insomnia and the effects of stress and anxiety.
“This is hemp. It doesn’t get you high; it gets you healthy,” Olivier Magny, Chief Operations Officer of NuuMe, said.
The product is meant to give a person a more balanced, healthy feeling, a philosophy they extend to their farming practice. All hemp is grown organically at the same facility where it’s processed, using what is called regenerative farming.
“We let a lot of the native plants come through in between the rows, and having that diversity of plant species creates more of a natural ecosystem, and it fosters an entire ecosystem of beneficial insects,” Rice said. “So we’ve never had any insect problem get out of control, because we foster a natural ecosystem that keeps itself in balance.”
Becoming USDA Certified Organic is a feat few other CBD manufacturers have reached, and was proudly advertised on all their products with their rebrand to NuuMe.
“There’s a very, very, very small percentage of CBD products which are organic certified this gives a degree of readability and recognizability on the testable level of quality that few in industry have reached,” Magny said.
NuuMe’s CBD products come in either topical creams or ingestible drops. Rice said the most popular products tend to be the drops, but that the creams are a much less intimidating way to start CBD.
“When you talk about people that are new to CBD, oftentimes it’s the topicals that are much more approachable for them, you know; they’re not ingesting anything, they can just try a little and rub it on and kind of approach it carefully,” Rice said. “Once they experience what a difference that that makes for them in their experience, then they’re more apt to try the internal version and go a little farther with it.”
