As of February 1, 2020, pharmacies around Australia can legally sell low-dose Cannabidiol (CBD) for the very first time in Australia’s history.
CBD is a cannabinoid that is extracted from cannabis. It has been used throughout the medical community in recent years, to treat several kinds of conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, depression, nerve pain and other health issues. As of February, residents are able to buy it over the counter as a result of being approved for sale by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
As it stands, the product is only available to individuals who are over the age of 18. Adults can get as much as 150 milligrams per day and no longer need a special approval in order for them to use it. Users can choose to get it locally or from online stores such as Miisster CBD.
Dr. Ben Jansen, founder and director of Cannabis Doctors Australia, proclaimed that the shift from requiring a prescription to being sold over the counter is a huge milestone that will help to mitigate the stigma associated with using medical cannabis. He also proclaims that this would enable facilities to provide greater access to individuals who stand to benefit from it.
What is CBD ?
CBD, commonly called cannabidiol is a chemical compound that is found in the marijuana plant. This natural substance is typically extracted and produced in the form of an oil. CBD has gotten an abundance of attention from the medical community and is regarded as being an essential item to use in regards to medicinal marijuana therapy.
How Does It Work ?
CBD, unlike it’s THC counterpart, does not give the user the sensation of being high. As Dr. Jenson explained, “Low doses of CBD can provide a multitude of benefits to individuals who are experiencing insomnia, arthritis, inflammation related issues and chronic pain”. However, Dr Jansen also warned that if taking CBD does not lead to an improvement in symptoms, said individuals should contact their doctor to determine if they may need a higher dose.
How Can I Purchase It ?
Only adults over the legal age limit can purchase CBD over-the-counter. The compound itself can be purchased through one of the many pharmacies in Australia. However, it is worth noting that other types of CBD products such as topical creams and vaping related cartridges will still need a doctor’s prescription in order for a resident to acquire them. And, while pharmacies are now legally able to provide CDB without a prescription, experts suggest that you will not be able to get it locally for at least 180 days as several products are waiting to be given the green light from regulatory bodies. As such, you stand a greater chance of getting it from an online store you can find here: https://www.miistercbd.com/en/buy-cbd/australia/.
How Do I Take It ?
In order for you to get the most out of CDB it’s highly recommended that you use the oral oil method. However, a representative from CDA Clinic proclaims that as opposed to a one size fits all approach, individuals should start low and gradually increase their dosage until they get the desired effect. CDA Clinics also proclaims that users should consume something with fat, while doing CBD to increase the body’s ability to absorb it once it has been taken orally.
